Audi A6 Sedan: The Best Car
If I could buy whichever car I wanted without thinking about the cost, I’d buy the luxury Audi1 A6 petrol. It’s extremely comfortable, spacious, smooth, quiet, safe at speed and powerful. It costs 95 lakh, and is better than a BMW sedan or crossover that cost the same, and a Mercedes sedan that costs 1.9 crore.
- The interior feels old, and isn’t technologically advanced like the Creta.
± EPB
± Wood used in the interior
+ 45 TFSI
± 1.8 tons
± The brake is very sensitive
± Non-adaptive cruise control
± FWD
± No lane-keeping assist — I have to steer manually
± The boot opens electrically and closes manually. Being a sedan, it’s deep but shallow.
Comfort
The A6, in addition to being the best car, is the most comfortable sedan:
+ Good legroom even when the seat is fully up
+ The steering wheel tilts and telescopes electrically.
+ The center armrest angle can be adjusted.
+ The dash is low compared to crossovers, as is typical for sedans, so it doesn’t feel boxed in.
+ The windshield isn’t cramped, by sedan standards
- When putting my seat belt on, the center console came in the way.
+ It’s comfortable at high speed, while in other vehicles, you feel the imperfections of the road or even bounce.
+ The engine isn’t noisy even at high speed.
+ The engine is extremely refined.
+ Tyre noise is mild at high speed.
+ Sound isolation is excellent.
+ The acceleration is super smooth.
+ The suspension is super smooth, both at low speed, when it absorbs bumps well, and at high speed, where it felt like I’m gliding over the expressway.
+ Since it’s a sedan, there’s no body roll.
+ Despite its length of 5m, I was able to weave through traffic easily and safely, because of its engine power. This probably also indicates that the handling is precise, too.
+ You can press a button to turn on a perfume. Further, you can choose between a summer and two winter perfumes! These are refilled during maintenance.
Digital
+ Both the front and the rear have two USB-C ports and a 12V port2.
- My iPhone’s volume controls don’t work in CarPlay, but they don’t on many cars.
+ Wired CarPlay
Cooling
This car falls short in cooling compared to cars that cost a quarter as much:
- My fat Thermos doesn’t fit anywhere in the car. Even a 1-liter Bisleri had to be forced in.
- No ventilated seats
- The sunroof isn’t panoramic, which is unfortunate, since a panoramic sunroof instantly cools a black car that has been baking for hours in the afternoon summer sun.
- No remote AC start
+ 4-zone AC, one for each passenger
- No cooled glovebox
+ All four AC vents are near the top of the dash. This is good since the head and upper body are heat-sensitive.
- No physical AC controls
- No sunglass holder
+ The rear windshield comes with an electric sunshade
+ Rear window sunshades
Front passenger seat
+ I can fully stretch my legs when the seat is up.
+ Good headroom for a sedan. When the seat is lowered, the headroom is not just good by sedan standards but good.
± Windows small, as is typical for a sedan.
Rear seat
+ Headroom is fine and not just by sedan standards, but also by crossover standards.
± I can stretch my legs but not fully.
+ Good thigh support, unlike some cars, where my thighs are left dangling.
+ Small windows, as is the norm for sedans
+ My fat Thermos fits in the door
- The sunroof isn’t visible, which takes away its main esthetic benefit. You could say it’s for cooling, but as I mentioned above, since it’s not panoramic, I doubt it will be as effective.
+ Intuitive AC controls for temperature and fan speed for each passenger.
The salesman told me Audi doesn’t have long wheelbase (LWB) cars.
Along with an actual cigarette lighter (ugh!), but I can remove that and just use the port.
