iPhone 17 vs 15: A Few Quick Observations
Both screens are equally hard to read in the sun despite Apple’s claim that the 17 goes to 3000 nits vs 2000 for the 15.
The 17 can get dimmer, which isn’t helpful because the 15’s dimmest setting is too dim to watch a video — I bump it up a bit. If I don’t want to watch a video, the dimmest setting is usually dim enough1.
The speakers are the same: same volume, clarity and bass, and both phones have two speakers at the bottom.
Coming to dimensions, continuing the unfortunate trend of phones getting bigger every year, the 17 is unfortunately taller and thicker2, so it will take more space in my pocket and be harder to put into or take out of.
On rare occasions, I did wish it could go dimmer, but dark mode solves that.
If you ignore the same bump, the thickness is the same, but I can’t, since the camera bump can snag my wallet, handkerchief or other things.
Both have the same width.
