Some Level of Perturbation Is Good
My computer desk was located next to a floor-to-ceiling window, at a ninety degree angle. A lot of light was falling on the computer screen at certain times of the day, at which times I had to close the curtains. After a decade of managing this way, I moved the desk to the opposite wall as the floor-to-ceiling window. Since it was far from the window, I thought less light will fall on it. But since the screen was now facing the window, it didn’t help. But this gave me an idea, which is to move the screen to a different place in the room, which worked best.
I didn’t find the optimal solution by planning, but by trying things out.
If any part of your life hasn’t changed for a decade, try something else1. For example, try waking up at 5 AM for a few months. Sometimes the thing we try out won’t help, but will give us an idea for another change we can make, which will be best.
Otherwise you’ll grow old. Age is not a number, but a situation where everything is set in stone and you’re not willing to try anything new.
