Dream Exploration: Initiating a Lucid Dream
In a previous post, I shared how I happened to dream lucidly. If you haven’t read that, stop reading this, read that, and then come back; otherwise you won’t be able to fully understand or appreciate this.
It turns out there are some techniques we can practice to dream lucidly more often. One of them is to look at the time, make a mental note, and look again. In the waking world, you’ll see the same time twice. In the dream world, it can change. That’s how you can recognise you’re dreaming.
I tried this technique a few times, looking at the time on my iPhone.
The next time I tried it, I found two times, one on each side of the notch:
Seeing two clocks, I knew that this can’t be real.
Further, 18:21 could not be the correct time since I went to bed at around 10 PM, and a couple of hours must have passed, so it must be around the middle of the night. I was aware of the real-world time in the dream.
When I concluded I’m dreaming, I decided to wake myself up, and I could.
This was a fascinating experience, merging the real and the dream world, and I intend to try more lucid dreams.
